YouTube is exploding in terms of content uploaded and money made. And you want to get in on it. But how does it work exactly?
It’s actually not all that different from normal television. A YouTube content creator decides to monetize their channel. They activate monetization through their dashboard settings. They attract an audience. Advertisers purchase several different kinds of advertising that run before, after, and sometimes during videos from monetized channels. The channel owner (known as a “partner”) gets to determine what kinds of ads they want to run, and to some degree, what kinds of ads. Without falling too far down the explanation rabbit hole, this is how YouTube partners make their money. In short, YouTube partners create content, which attracts an audience, and advertisers want to target those audience members, so they purchase ads.
There’s quite a bit more to it, and it does get a lot more complex. Here are some resources, from YouTube themselves: Getting started as a YouTube partner!
